Welcome to MKWS
Hi,
Welcome to the Milton Keynes Wargames Society web site. This web site is intended to be not only an insight into the activities of MKWS, but also to act as a catalyst to encourage newcomers to take up the hobby either with MKWS or elsewhere.
In general terms most MKWS activity revolves around gaming, using representative miniatures, on either a board or tabletop. The type of game may vary between Historical, Fantasy and Science Fiction. In resent times the variety in gaming has increased significantly. No longer the sole preserve of 15mm 7th Ed. or DBM; MKWS now supports numerous periods, such as Ancients, Renaissance, Napoleonic, Colonial, WW2, Modern, Fantasy, Pirates and Bloodbowl. The list continues to grow only restricted by the imagination and enthusiasm of the members.
I hope that you enjoy your visit to our website, and that you will be encouraged to visit the club one evening.

National League Rules Policy
9 February 08
After a number of years of only one viable option for Ancient Tournament gaming, we find ourselves spoilt for choice. The tried and tested DBM 3.1, Phil Barkers latest work DBMM and the new kid on the block Field of Glory. Tournament Organisers are therefore left with some difficult decisions. The National League organisers are further restricted, as there are only two Ancient Leagues. We have decided for this year that we will offer DBM 3.1 in 15mm and DBMM in 25mm. Why no FOG? First, I like many other players have yet to have any experience of the rules. My copy will be delivered in late February. Second, only one of the MK umpire team have any knowledge of the rules. Third, The National League offers three periods per league, and with only two Army Lists initially published there would not be sufficient coverage to support three periods. Fourth, despite the chinese rumurs of frailty and over complication, and the frustations felt because of the restricted availability, DBMM are a good rule set. Phil Barker has once again produced a well balances rule set, which solves many of the problems inherent in its predecessor. After 30 years of writing the tournament standard Ancient Rules, Phil’s latest rules deserve opportunity, consideration, and more than a little respect.
Our Friend John
3 March 07
After a long and typically dignified yet tenacious battle against his illness, John Sampson passed away on Sunday 28 January 2007. John had been an integral part of the Milton Keynes Wargames Society for the last 20 years, and for some years before that had been a prominent member of both the Bun Shop and SELWG amongst others.
John is missed by us all, whether for his, cunningly devious yet precise play, sound well thought through council, distinctive laugh warming the room, or as many people have remark, his generosity towards his fellow gamers when they needed some advise or guidance. Always approachable, always good humoured, irreplaceable, that’s our friend John.
